Training Your Bird with Positive Reinforcement
Get started with a basic overview and some solid training tips

The Trick to Treats
Sometimes finding a food item that your bird really likes can be a challenge.  Some birds find attention or affection to be more rewarding.  This article will help you get started.

HE SAID, SHE SAID, SCIENCE SAYS

"Never make a parrot do anything it doesn’t want to do." No way, it’s "Never allow a parrot to be in control." But I’m sure I read, "Parrots are partners not subordinates." Well, I was taught, "Humans must establish superior rank over their parrots." He said, she said, they said, we said. Will the real parrot behavior experts please stand up?

Straight Talk about Parrot Behavior

Learn more about the internet list, Parrot Behavior Analysis Solutions (PBAS; www.yahoogroups.com). PBAS is not a chat group; it’s a special interest work group dedicated to applying the scientific principles of behavior to living and learning with companion parrots.

Built to Play!
One of the many positive aspects of parrot toys is that they are created to offer your bird something to do.  Something to play with when you’re not around, something to spend some time doing.  They are useful in relieving boredom and inactivity.  And our birds seem to enjoy them, because they keep going back to play with them.

Setting the Place for Success
Setting up your bird’s environment to facilitate a positive relationship is something that both your and your bird will benefit from.

WHAT'S the first thing that pops into your head when you hear the word "training"? Parrots riding bicycles, playing basketball, or singing songs? You can train your bird to do all of those things, but training is so much more than cute tricks. Training is really a synonym for teaching. Believe it or not, we are all trainers. Our companion parrots are learning from us all the time. It's just that we usually are not conscious of how much we are influencing their behavior. Training also is a form of communication. It serves as a language we can use to tell an animal what it is we want.
